Conversion rates don’t vary much based on Ad Position

Interesting post on the Inside Adwords Blog today. The team there did a study to figure out how much the position of an ad affects how well it converts.

Does a high ranking ad convert better than a low ranking ad?

According to Google, the answer is no – the rank of an ad does NOT affect conversion rates.

That’s very interesting to me because for organic search results, the rank does affect conversion rates because people trust the rankings that Google are showing.

What this new research says is that people don’t trust the ranking of Adwords ads because they know that positions can be bought.

  1. Great site…keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,

    A definite great read…:)
